Shillong, Oct 7: BJP Legislator AL Hek on Thursday asked Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui to step down on “moral ground” after the tear gas incident on agitating teachers.

Hek said that the use of tear gas against the teachers on Thursday was very inhumane. “It is very inhumane, teachers came (to agitate) with their family, they came with their children and they were doing peaceful protest in demanding their own right,” he said adding that “…the teachers did not carry anything to be harmful to anybody but for the police to apply weapons against the poor teachers is very inhumane”.

He further said that the Home Minister should step down on moral ground. “It should (step down) on moral ground, his own party has told him to step down and I also request the Home Minister to resign on Moral ground”.

Asked if the BJP will pull out from the MDA coalition if the Home Minister fails to resign, Hek refused to answer instead asked not to repeat this question and that the decision taken from the beginning still stands.
