Stand-off between factory owner and HYC over document checks

Nongpoh, July 23: A heated argument erupted between the leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Ri Bhoi District and the owner of Shaiñ Jri Factory on Monday when the owner refused to produce documents confirming the legality of the facility’s operations.

The incident occurred during a checks conducted by the HYC at Resources Rubber Pvt. Ltd., located in the village of Mawsmai, Ri Bhoi.

However, the factory owner refused to provide the requested documents, asserting that the HYC lacked the authority to perform such checks.

According to the HYC, the factory has been operating illegally for the past six months, with its permits expired and without valid documentation.

Despite these allegations, the factory owner stood firm, showed a recent statement from the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma indicating that no organisation has the authority to conduct such checks without proper authorisation from the authorities.

Frustrated by the owner’s actions, the HYC Ri Bhoi District decided to close down the factory. They warned that if the factory is reopened or the locks are tampered with before the necessary documents are provided, the HYC will return and take more stringent actions.
