Malda, Feb 2: A gruesome act of a person beheading his own niece has sent shockwaves across the city of Malda of West Bengal. This brutal incident came into limelight after the trunk and head of an 11-year-old girl, who had been missing since January 29, were found in different parts of Malda city.
West Bengal police was able to crack the case after tracing a CCTV footage where it was clearly seen that a 27-year-old man, who was later identified as the deceased girl’s uncle, was seen with her just moments before she went missing.
Earlier, her father had lodged a police complaint, stating the girl went out of her house at around 6.15 pm on January 29, 2024, and never returned home.
Based on the CCTV footage, the police were able to nab the accused. According to police, the accused has confessed to killing the girl to exact revenge on her father, who had physically and mentally humiliated him several times in the past at public places. Meanwhile, Police also suspects that the victim might have been raped before being murdered.
Police further said the accused has claimed that he killed his niece at an isolated place within an hour of picking her up on his motorcycle.
BJP workers from the West Bengal city staged a protest outside English Bazar police station against this ghastly inhuman act. Moreover, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP, has claimed that the girl could have been saved if the police had acted swiftly.
On the other hand, ruling Trinamool Congress party workers took out a silent vigil in protest against the incident.
This horrid incident has sparked a massive public outcry in Malda, with people from all walks of life staging protests against the incident, and shutting down the city shops. The protesters have demanded for the strictest punishment, according to the Indian Penal Code, against the accused.
