Shillong, April 22: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) conducted checks on two-wheelers on Monday to curb the menace of overtaking and reckless driving within the city.

Additionally, the STP carried out inspections on modified loud bike exhausts, which are deemed illegal. According to the Motor Vehicle Act, the sound level produced by a motorcycle’s exhaust system shall not exceed 80 decibels.

The police statement informed that in the last seven days, the STP have detected 10 modified silencers, and operations are still ongoing.

In the last checking by the STP, as many as 181 modified bike exhaust were destroyed by using a road roller at Police Reserve.

Shillong has recently been facing a serious problem with traffic congestion, and people prefer traveling by two-wheelers. However, the number of accidents involving two-wheelers is also increasing.
