Shillong, Dec 14: Shillong is gearing up to host its 1st ever Christmas carol singing competition, titled ‘Jingle All The Way’, for groups and choirs on December 20 & 21 at Anton Hall in Laitumkhrah.

Jointly presented by Big FM, one of India’s leading radio networks, and JBL, one of the world’s leading players in the home and professional audio market, ‘Jingle All The Way’ will put one of the best loved traditions of Christmas i.e. Christmas Carols at the centre of the city’s Christmas Celebrations.

‘Jingle All The Way’ is slated to be a vibrant and engaging event, attracting participation from local communities, churches and indeed anyone who shares a love for Christmas Carols and who wishes to see the best talent from Meghalaya giving voice to the season of cheer with music.

As a mark of respect for Meghalaya’s rich musical history and lineage, the competing groups and choirs have been asked to perform a creative twist on the traditional carols thereby bringing out to the fullest extent the state’s proficiency in both popular western and indigenous musical styles.

Beside the carol singing competition, JBL and Big FM will light up the streets of Shillong with a 3-day ‘Canter Activity’ that will roll through the city’s main locations. The customised canter adorned and illuminated with Christmas decorations, characters and lights will engage the people of Shillong in activities like Karaoke, Christmas Rap Contests, Silent Disco and others spreading joy, handing out prizes and giving everyone a glimpse of JBL’s latest sound devices and technology.

The city’s leading musicians like Rudy Wallang, Kitkupar Shangpliang, Jeremy Mawlong and Tipriti Kharbangar will all be involved in some capacity or the other, either by judging the contest, lending their endorsement or in the case of Rudy Wallang and his band, by being the main performing artists in the grand finale of ‘Jingle All The Way’.

In addition to JBL, the event is also supported by IOCL and BIS Hallmark, marking a significant investment by the corporate sector in Shillong’s increasing reputation as a tourist hotspot and its potential for artistic excellence and cultural pluralism. Local production company, The Co.Lab, has been entrusted with overseeing the event, ensuring it offers a memorable experience for the local people, its musical practitioners and people visiting the state as tourists.
