Shillong, Feb 17: A Shillong-based singer Lamphang Syiemlieh stunned social media users on Monday by publicly admitting to catfishing and identity theft.

In a social media post, he confessed to impersonating a woman, using stolen photos to deceive men online and solicit explicit conversations.

Syiemlieh revealed that he had been running fake accounts under the names “audreyas962” and “Lakysha A” on Facebook for over a year and a half. Through these accounts, he engaged in multiple online relationships, pretending to be someone else for his own personal gratification.

“I have contacted countless men, sending them sexually explicit messages. My intentions were to deceitfully gain their attention, having failed to do so through my own person,” Syiemlieh admitted in his post.

He further stated that he had deliberately stolen and misused a woman’s identity for his own interests. “I take full responsibility for my actions,” he added, emphasizing that he had previously targeted other women as well.

According to police sources, a complaint was filed regarding the incident. However, due to familial ties between those involved, the complainants chose not to proceed with legal action.

Meanwhile, the social media account linked to the catfishing scheme remains active, with over 370 followers at the time of reporting.
