Shillong, March 13: The Shillong Cricket Association (SCA) clinched the champions trophy of the U-15 Girls Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2025 with a 41-run victory over South West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association (SWKHDCA) in the final held in Nongstoin on Wednesday.

Organized by the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) and hosted by the West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association (WKHDCA) at the Mawrysyiar village playground, the tournament brought together young cricketing talent from across the state.

The final was impacted by rain, with SWKHDCA winning the toss and opting to field first. SCA capitalized on the opportunity to set a strong total, scoring 166/3 in 20 overs. Janvi Kumar Shah led the batting with a well-compiled 58 off 67 balls, supported by Laviola L Mawlong (28 off 32) and Prisceca Nongpiur (16 off 30).

Rain interruptions during SWKHDCA’s chase reduced their innings to 9.3 overs, with a revised target of 116 runs set using the DLS method. However, they could only manage 74/7, handing SCA a 41-run victory. In the bowling attack, Laviola L Mawlong claimed 2 wickets for just 3 runs in her first over, while Prisceca Nongpiur took 2/17 in 4 overs, ensuring a comfortable win for SCA.

The final was attended by several dignitaries, including MCA Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, MCA Vice-President Sengnab Momin, MCA Apex Council Member Peter Macdonald Kharsawian, Mawrysyiar Youth & Cultural Club (MYCC) President Lamborful Wanniang, MYCC Secretary Shembor Rani, WKHDCA President Wanpyntngenbor Lyngdoh Nonglait, and WKHDCA General Secretary Mebanphira Swer. Other representatives from district cricket associations were also present to witness the match.

Despite the weather disruptions, the tournament served as a valuable platform for young female cricketers to showcase their skills. The final, played in a competitive spirit, highlighted the growing talent in Meghalaya’s cricketing landscape.
