SHILLONG, FEB 26: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has approved Rs 41.69 lakh for construction of a wall fencing of the Sengbah ki Nongshat Nongkhein, Hynniewskum Hynniewtrep, Baniun Mylliem.
“I’m happy to sanction Rs 41.69 lakh from my Chief Minister Special Development Fund for the construction of the fencing,” Sangma said, responding to a request from the local MLA and community leaders.
A representative of the Sengbah ki Nongshat Nongkhein Hynniewskum Hynniewtrep community expressed gratitude, saying, “We are very grateful indeed to get this golden opportunity… This is the first of its kind (support) that we have had for the last 45 years.”
The community had been seeking support since procuring 2 acres of land in Baniun in 1981.
“For so long we can say the government never looks after us but this is the only government from the NPP who feels the need and pulse of people from all communities in Meghalaya,” the representative added.
The community has invited Chief Minister Sangma to lay the foundation stone for the construction.
