Shillong, July 24: Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday said that she is aware of an allegation of improper treatment of an accident victim at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

Ampareen said that she will ask for a formal report from the institute’s director today.

She also expressed her concern over the incident and emphasised the need for a thorough investigation to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. Ampareen added that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the report to ensure justice for the accident victim.

Her statement comes a day after rukus was reported at the NEGRIMS hospital after a young accident patient died there on Sunday.

The incident sparked outrage among the  family members, with many demanding answers and accountability from the hospital administration. The patient’s family has also called for a transparent investigation into the circumstances leading to their loved one’s death.

The family members have alleged that medical professionals were not available at the hospital for several hours, which resulted in the death of the young boy.

Family members and friends said the patient was rushed to the hospital via ambulance around 11:30 a.m., arriving at the facility at approximately 12:30 p.m. Despite suffering major leg injuries, the young man was alive and stable upon arrival.

However, soon the situation turned perplexing after the hospital staff declared the boy dead, and again said that he was alive. But again, the boy was declared dead leaving the family and friends in deep anguish and anger.

The hospital staff’s conflicting declarations regarding the patient’s condition caused immense confusion and distress among the family and friends who were already grappling with the shock of the situation. The incident raised serious concerns about the hospital’s competence and communication, leaving everyone involved seeking answers and justice for the young man.
