TURA, Sept 2: A delegation of the All Meghalaya RMSA Teachers Association, led by the Garo Hills chapter, called on Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma at Tura on Saturday to submit a charter of demands highlighting their grievances over delayed salaries and lack of employment benefits that go with the teaching profession.

In their discussion with the chief minister they raised the problem of delayed salaries and non-regularization of their services pointing out that many a times they have to wait 5 to 6 months to get their monthly dues.

The job insecurity has demotivated the teachers and there are financial implications from the irregular disbursement of salaries, pointed out the RMSA teachers.

Another issue raised in their charter is the lack of enhancement of their salaries which the teachers say is equivalent to being underpaid for their work.

The RMSA teachers are drawing a meagre salary which is underpaid and devalued, claim the teachers.

Worried about the future post retirement, the teachers are urging the state government to provide benefits of medical allowance, gratuity and other facilities that others in the teaching fraternity are being provided.

They further complained that RMSA teachers have been excluded from an important social security scheme like the CPF which has long term benefits for employees, both government and private, as the money deposited in the CPF plays a vital role after their retirement.

To meet the daily needs and to be free from financial stress post retirement, RMSA teachers should be included in the4 CPF, requested the teachers delegation.
