Nongpoh, Dec 23: Ri Bhoi district administration, including the Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal and Superintendent of Police V.S. Rathore, have announced a ban on protests by the Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) in the Byrnihat and Khanapara areas, scheduled for December 24.

This decision follows a warning from the Hindu group KSP, which had threatened to stage protests in these areas if the Meghalaya government does not permit religious rituals at Mawjymbuin Cave in Mawsynram. The group declared that failure to grant permission for the rituals would escalate into serious agitations.

To maintain peace and prevent disruptions during the Christmas season, Ri Bhoi officials have implemented strict monitoring and preventive measures. Coordination efforts are also underway with Kamrup Metro District authorities and police to ensure security along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
