Guwahati, Apr 30: In a chilling case of revenge, a man who was in jail on charges of raping a minor, came out on bail and murdered the person who accused him of rape.
Chirang police have now arrested the man identified as Mukha Basumatary(30), who killed Chubila Basumatary(40) in revenge for sending him to jail.
The incident took place on Tuesday at around 8 p.m. at Batabari village, under the Runikata police station in Assam’s Chirang district.
According to locals, Mukha Basumatary was arrested in connection with a 2023 case where he tried to rape a minor girl. The family members of Chubila Basumatary had given the case against Mukha. Mukha, after getting bail, directly came to Chubila Basumatary’s house and killed her brutally,” said a local resident.
The resident said the woman’s husband was not present at the time of the incident. Mukha Basumatary took advantage of that and killed the woman in revenge for sending him to jail.
“We have apprehended an individual for killing a woman. Our investigation was on. Right now, we can’t say much about the case because our investigation is on,” said a police officer.

Talking to NE Hub, Chirang superintendent of police Akshat Garg said, “Mukha Basumatary was in jail for two months, but recently he got bail from the Court. He killed the woman in revenge for accusing him of raping the minor. We have arrested him and started our interrogation.
