Agartala, Oct 24: A prisoner serving a 12-year sentence for rape at the Central Correctional Home in Bishalgarh, Tripura’s Sepahijala district, was found dead on Wednesday, with initial suspicions suggesting suicide in a toilet.
The inmate, identified as Dilip Debbarma, had been incarcerated for rape and had already served 10 years of his sentence, with just two years remaining.
Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dulal Datta said the deceased, Dilip Debbarma, was a resident of Jirania in Tripura’s West district. “He had completed 10 years of his sentence and was due to be released in a couple of years” Datta said.
