New Delhi, Feb 06: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes for a swift recovery and good health to Britain’s King Charles III, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

PM Modi shared on X, “I join the people of India in wishing a speedy recovery and good health to His Majesty King Charles III.”

King Charles III has commenced a regular treatment schedule after being diagnosed with cancer subsequent to a recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement. Consequently, he will be delaying his public engagements, a statement from Buckingham Palace read.

While Buckingham Palace has refrained from specifying the type of cancer, it mentioned that the 75-year-old monarch has commenced treatment and maintains an optimistic outlook.

As per medical advice, he will be deferring his public engagements but will persist with his responsibilities as Head of State, including essential paperwork and private meetings.

In September 2022, Charles assumed the throne upon the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96. The news of the king’s diagnosis coincides with his daughter-in-law, Kate, Princess of Wales, recovering from abdominal surgery that required a hospital stay of around two weeks.

A spokesperson noted that the King decided to make his cancer treatment public due to his previous patronage of several cancer-related charities during his time as the Prince of Wales.
