SHILLONG, FEB 17: The Meghalaya government will move ahead with a detailed project report for a water supply scheme covering Mukhap-Mokaiaw and Motyrshiah villages in Mokaiaw constituency, Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise N Marak told the Assembly on Tuesday.
The project components will include construction of a dam and a water treatment plant.
“The DPR shall be prepared immediately on receipt of the required clearances,” Marak said, responding to a question from UDP legislator Nujorki Sungoh.
Sungoh told the House his constituency faces an annual water crisis.
“I raised this question because we are facing water crisis every year. Till now the problem exists,” he said, asking whether the government was considering the proposal. Marak replied “yes”.
Pressed for a timeline, Sungoh assured the minister that land would not be a hurdle.
Marak, however, said the department was still awaiting formal clearance.
“The executive engineer has called a meeting for the land issue, but till now the department is yet to get land. I request the member to pursue and send a no-objection certificate to the department,” he said.
Sungoh responded that local authorities had given their commitment.
“The headman has assured and we will make necessary arrangement for the land,” he said.
