Tura, Sept 4: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) has demanded a medical student to tender an unconditional apology to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, senior citizens, and NGOs for being “disrespectful” during a recent meeting held at Tura Circuit to discuss issues concerning the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council’s financial crisis and the Tura Medical College.
The meeting aimed to explore the pros and cons of implementing a Public-Private Partnership mode for the medical college.
The discussion was productive, with participants sharing valuable insights and suggestions. However, a medical student’s behavior during the meeting drew criticism.
According to the NPFY working president Anclucis M Marak, the student displayed a lack of knowledge, maturity, and basic etiquette, failing to express concerns respectfully.
“His behavior was not only inappropriate and disrespectful but also deeply unbecoming of a student, more so of one pursuing the noble profession of medicine. It also appears that the said individual may have been motivated or instigated by vested interests with the malicious intent of creating an atmosphere of discord and derailing the otherwise peaceful and productive discussions of this August gathering,” he said.
“The NPFY demands that the concerned individual tender an unconditional apology to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, to the respected senior citizens, and to the NGOs who were present. An apology is owed not only to the persons directly disrespected but also to the people of Meghalaya at large, whose democratic ethos and traditions of mutual respect were undermined by such conduct,” Marak stated.
He also warned any attempt to demean the office of the Chief Minister or to insult the senior citizens and community leaders is unacceptable and intolerable.
The NPFY further appealed to all stakeholders, particularly the youth, to engage in democratic debates and dialogues in a civilized and respectful manner, upholding the values of courtesy, humility, and constructive engagement.
“It is only through such positive participation that we can build a stronger and more prosperous Meghalaya together,” Marak added.
