While speaking to the reporters, Tynsong said that the party had five to six aspirants for both both Shillong and Tura constituencies. Following which the state election committee decided to recommend these two names after examination and consultation to the high command and then the high command approved the names.

On seeking support from other Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) partners for their candidates in 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Deputy Chief Minister said since the names of the NPP candidates have been declared then why not support the NPP candidates if they (MDA allies) can.

Talking about the vote share of NPP, he said that NPP’s vote share is the highest in the Shillong Constituency and if worked harder the party candidate would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

On fielding both female candidate on Shillong and Tura seat, Tynsong said that its not about the gender of the candidates but the priority is winnability

It must be noted that Ampareen Lyngdoh, currently the Health & Family Welfare Minister of the state is a 4-time MLA and Agatha Sangma is the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Tura.

On Wednesday, National People’s Party (NPP) state president Prestone Tynsong informed that the party’s state election committee had submitted the names of candidates from Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats for the approval to NPP supremo Conrad Sangma.
