Tura, June 9: The body of a newborn infant was discovered by municipal workers in a garbage dump along Tura’s AOC road early morning on Monday, in what authorities suspect to be a case of infanticide.

The discovery was made by municipal workers during their routine morning garbage collection. While sorting waste on their truck, they found the infant’s body inside a plastic bag. The pile of garbage had been picked up from a corner near the AOC petrol station in the Hawakhana area.

Upon noticing the grim discovery, the workers immediately proceeded to the Tura police station to alert authorities.

Police have taken custody of the body, which has since been transported to the Civil Hospital for further investigation.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident yet, and police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected crime.
