SHILLONG, SEPT 7: Nursing services at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences are set to be hit with the NEIGRIHMS Nurses Association (NNA) deciding to observe mass casual leave on September 9, followed by an indefinite strike from September 17.

The Association said the move comes after its long-pending demands were not addressed despite repeated representations.

In a statement, the NNA listed four major demands – regular recruitment against all sanctioned vacancies of Nursing Officers, withdrawal of the outsourcing proposal for Nursing Officers, implementation of the Union Health Ministry’s Office Memorandum of May 30, 2026, and early conduct of pending recruitment examinations.

The Association said it had already launched symbolic protests, including wearing black badges from August 17 and holding daily dharna from August 18 to 21.

A rally scheduled on August 21 was cancelled due to prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS.

It also said a meeting was held on August 19 with Health & Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and Director Prof Nalin Mehta, but no time-bound assurance was received.

The NNA said it had served a 14-day notice for mass leave and would go ahead with the agitation as planned.
