Shillong, Jan 31 : Following a misunderstanding during a meeting, the Director of NEIGRIHMS, Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, issued an apology on Wednesday for his immature attitude towards the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC).

On Wednesday, HYC members met with the NEIGRIHMS Director to discuss various issues concerning recruitment and the process for the locals within the hospital. However, tensions escalated when the HYC staged a walkout during the meeting, alleging that the director had insulted council members.

The HYC members, led by President Roy Kupar Kharjahrin, have threatened to dismiss all employees and staff and also to shut down the hospital gates.

Following this incident, the magistrate intervened to calm the situation. The director subsequently apologised to the council, pledged to retract his words, and proposed another meeting. However, the HYC members declined and requested that the director reschedule the meeting for another day.

Speaking to reporters, HYC President Roykhpar Synrem explained that the Council approached the Director to discuss issues related to the recruitment of nurses through the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET), the outsourcing of jobs, and the 80% reservation for locals in Group B and C positions.
