Shillong, April 25: The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) administration has decided to constitute an inquiry committee to probe into the recent assault of a teacher in his office chamber.

“On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor Incharge Prof SM Sungoh and the administration, the university strongly condemns any act of violence in the university campus,” NEHU PRO Dr Davidson Pyngrope told media persons on Friday afternoon.

“It was brought to the notice of the administration that a teacher of the University was allegedly assaulted by some miscreants. The victim has already filed an FIR at mawkynroh police outpost. Now the matter is in the hands of the police department and the investigation will take its course,” he added.

Pyngrope informed that the university will also form an inquiry committee that will look into the matter.

“We urge the university fraternity, including students, to kindly maintain the decorum of the university,” he said.

Furthermore, the administration has assured that security of teachers, staff, and students is of utmost importance for the university administration.

Mentionably, Dr Alok Singh, an Assistant Professor in the Hindi Department in NEHU, was assaulted inside his office chamber on Thursday evening allegedly by NEHUSU members for his different ideology and having alleged links with RSS and ABVP.
