Nongpoh, April 10: Police personnel from the Nongpoh Police Traffic Branch carried out a late-night traffic checking drive along National Highway 06, targeting drivers violating traffic rules under the Motor Vehicle Act. Within just a few hours, police collected nearly Rs 2.99 lakh in fines from violators.

This operation is part of an ongoing effort by the traffic branch to curb reckless driving, which has been a major cause of accidents and fatalities on the highway. Officer-in-Charge of the Nongpoh Traffic Branch, Rubul Ali, said the department is committed to strict enforcement, raising public awareness, and continuous monitoring to ensure road safety.

“Many vehicles were found without valid documents, and several drivers were under the influence of alcohol. Others were caught not wearing seatbelts or riding two-wheelers without helmets, including pillion riders,” Ali said.

He added that drivers were also checked for overloading, as per Section 113 of the Motor Vehicle Act, which poses serious risks to other road users.

Police have urged all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and show responsibility while driving to prevent further tragedies.

The traffic branch of Nongpoh police informed that they will continue with the regular checks to enforce safe driving practices along NH-06.
