Shillong, Aug 31: Khasi Authors’ Society’s (KAS) President, D R Nonglait, on Thursday informed that a national seminar on Khasi language, literature and culture would be held in September at YMCA, Delhi which will be attended by Khasi intellectuals and lecturers.
They will dwell on how to promote Khasi language and to also intensify their demand for inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
Nonglait stated they have never received any reason about the delay of the inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule.
“The Ministry of Home affairs gave us just one reason that Khasi is the one of the 38 languages in the country, whose demand has been kept pending for consideration. The central government in the past few years have no plans to amend the Eighth Schedule but apart from Khasi if the demand from other communities is made then the central govt will have to amend the Eighth Schedule,” he said.
