Shillong, Aug 22: The search panel headed by Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang has shortlisted the names of the chairperson and members of the expert committee who will be reviewing the reservation policy.

The names will be placed at the next cabinet meeting for a final decision from the government.

The Meghalaya government has also recommended that this committee be a five-member committee and have experts from different fields. The panel will consist of members from the state as well as from outside.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on June 21 that the government is actively seeking an expert committee comprising members who are both balanced and neutral in nature so as to ensure a fair and unbiased assessment of the reservation policy.

He further explained that it is important to understand the significance of having a comprehensive and impartial evaluation of our reservation policy, and to achieve this, the government is actively searching for individuals who possess expertise in the matter and who can offer diverse perspectives.

According to the Chief Minister, the Expert Committee’s primary task will be to critically examine the existing reservation policy and make recommendations for potential improvements or modifications. By fostering a balanced and neutral approach, the committee aims to address any concerns or disparities in the current system, ensuring that it continues to promote social justice and equal opportunities for all citizens.
