Shillong, Sep 24: The Mawkyrwat police on Sunday retrieved a highly decomposed body from a steep cliff at Riat Thawlong near Mawkyrwat Market. The body was found at around 11:15 a.m.

The highly decomposed body has been identified as that of Hopewelson Turnia, approximately 38 years of age, and the son of (L) Aiwei Thongni. He was a resident of Ngunraw in South West Khasi Hills.

Hopewelson, 38, had been missing since September 20.

According to family members, Hopewelson hailed from Ngunraw, but his wife’s residence was in Mawlangwir. He frequently travelled between his hometown and his wife’s house, which is why his family has been unaware of his disappearance since September 20.

It wasn’t until both families realised they hadn’t heard from him that they initiated a search. During their search, they tragically discovered his highly decomposed body near Mawkyrwat Market. Subsequently, they informed the police to conduct further investigations.
