Shillong, Oct 30: The Meghalaya Tribal Teachers’ Association (MeTTA-NEHU) has extended full support to the demand of the NEHUSU and NEHUTA for the immediate termination of the services of the Registrar and removal of the two newly appointed Deputy Registrars as they were allegedly found to be incompetent and unfit to run the administration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the MeTTA-NEHU expressed concern on the current situation in the North Eastern Hill University on matters relating to the irregularities of functioning of the Registrar and Deputy Registrars, who were recently appointed.

The Association also expressed its concerns over the many irregularities and inconsistencies in the functioning of these officers who have no knowledge of the rules, regulations and administrative procedures. This is reflected in many of the official correspondences issued by them from time to time.

“As per sources, it is learnt that there were many qualified and experienced candidates serving in different departments of the state government who have applied for the posts but were rejected,” it alleged while adding “Further, it is also learnt that in the recent appointment of contractual post in Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), NEHU, there were many qualified candidates, who were not called for the interview, whereas, candidates who were not qualified were appointed.”

“Considering the current disturbing situation in NEHU, the association endorses the demand of NEHUSU to terminate the services of the Registrar, Col (Retd) Omkar Singh and NEHUTA’s demand for removal of the two newly appointed Deputy Registrars, who were found to be incompetent and unfit to run the administration,” the association stated.
