Meghalaya: Mob attacks BSF outpost in East Khasi Hills, 5 injured, says Officials

Shillong, June 26: At least 5 people, including 2 BSF personnel, were injured on Sunday night after villagers attacked a border outpost in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, officials said.

According to reports, the incident is said to have reported at around 10 pm at Umsyiem village near Dawki town. The village is about 100 km south of the state capital.

Reports said, miscreants not only pelted stones but also threw empty liquor bottles at the security forces leading to retaliatory firing on Sunday night in Meghalaya.

BSF Meghalaya Frontier inspector general Pradip Kumar, they have seized a huge number of items meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh and identified the smugglers. Due to this, they led a mob to attack the outpost forcing the BSF to retaliate by firing in the air.

The incident  is said to have taken place when a vehicle with three occupants allegedly broke down near the outpost, said an eyewitness.

Meanwhile, a similar similar incident was reported on June 5 in the same area, said the PRO of BSF Meghalaya. It said that the incident took place when the BSF seized clothing items worth more that Rs 1 lakh.

Then too, miscreants had pelted stones on BSF troopers in which one personnel had sustained head injuries.
