Shillong, Nov 28: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday informed that Border Outposts (BoPs) will be set-up in the ‘sensitive’ areas along the Meghalaya-Assam border.

The decision came after the Mukroh firing incident in which six precious lives were lost from both the States in the morning of November 22, 2022.

“Tomorrow (Tuesday) the cabinet will finalise the lists for different areas where the BoPs will be set up… we shared with the different leaders from political parties that we have decided that we will be putting up the BoPs in these sensitive areas and many others and ensuring that full manpower, full infrastructure and other necessities be done to ensure that these BoPs are functioning well,” informed the Chief Minister after the all political party meet here on Monday.

The CM said the State Government will take all steps necessary in order to ensure the safety and security of the citizens in the border area is maintained.

On the demands of the Dorbar Shnong of Mukroh village to remove the Assam Forest Beat House at Mukroh area, the Chief Minister assured to take up the matter with the Assam Government.

On being asked, the Chief Minister said that a platoon of police has been stationed in the area and it will continue to camp in the village.

He also reiterated that the Mukroh village falls under the State of Meghalaya. “Even from the maps and the 2011 reports, Mukroh is very much under the State of Meghalaya,” he said.

He further informed that action will be taken against the perpetrators of violence and vandalism that had occurred during different rallies and agitations in the last few days.

He also appealed to the citizens to work together for normalcy to return and that there is no further incidents of violence or disruption in the State.

A two minutes’ silence was observed during the meeting as a mark of respect to the departed.
