Meghalaya Govt to develop world class skill development eco-system

Tura, Jan 26: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday announced that the state government aims to establish a world-class skill development ecosystem.

“The government will train 1 Lakh persons for domestic placements and 10,000 people for international placements”, he said addressing at 73rd Republic Day celebrations in Tura.

He informed that more than 50 nurses have been placed in Japan after language training and are undergoing documentation process.

“These nurses have become our ambassadors in Japan and have already joined the hospitals. They are sending remittance in tune of Rs 1 Lakh per person per month”, he added.

Stating that it is crucial to ensure that Meghalayan start-ups remain competitive and grow to new heights, he said, “The government has set a target to upgrade the skills of around 1,800 MSMEs in 2024-25. This initiative is being implemented through tailor-made Executive Training programs under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme”.

Informing that PRIME (Promotion & Incubation of Market-driven Enterprises) program is nurturing the startup ecosystem in the state, the chief minister said, “It has catalyzed the growth of over 322 startups, with an additional 75 to be incubated in March 2025. The program has also supported startups and academic institutions in securing funding of over Rs. 28.76 crores to date”.

He further informed that the PRIME hubs at Shillong & Tura have benefitted more than 6,000 individuals providing entrepreneurs with co-working spaces, free Wi-Fi, knowledge support, credit assistance, and connections to markets.

“Two more PRIME Hubs are in the process of being established”, he added.
