SHILLONG, NOV 27: A delegation of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has sought the intervention of the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui for addressing several key concerns including the timely completion and implementation of the SSA schools rationalization process and pay structure.
“We appreciate the steps taken by the state government to rationalize the SSA schools. We have suggested that the process be completed before the start of the next academic calendar, and the minister has assured us that the government will try its best to do so,” MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbui told reporters after the meeting on Thursday.
“The minister also informed us that the entire process of rationalization of SSA schools may take sometime because the government has to consult with the stakeholders especially the missionary and private schools,” he added.
The association has also requested the government to consider giving one-time relaxation to SSA teachers who have already retired, to enable them to apply for vacant posts in government schools.
“On this, the minister assured to review and consult with all departments concerned as this issue is also linked to other line departments like personnel and law departments. After discussions with these two other departments, he would inform the association on the matter,” Rymbai said.
Regarding the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), the minister informed that the department has prepared the process for conducting the exam, but is seeking clarification on the eligibility criteria for in-service teachers.
“The minister informed the delegation that the education department has prepared the entire process of how to conduct this TET but the question is that whether the teachers will be eligible or not to appear this TET. So next week, the minister will meet the concerned authorities in the ministry of education and NCTE for seeking clarification on the eligibility criteria for the inservice teachers.”
“The government wants the length of service of teachers to be considered as the eligibility criteria,” Rymbai added.
On the implementation of pay structure for SSA teachers, the minister announced that the government will announce the pay structure before Christmas, effective from April 1, 2026.
“The direction for collection of data regarding the length of service of SSA teachers has already been sent to all SDSEOs, and we hope that the process will be completed soon,” Rymbai added.
