SHILLONG, FEB 20: The state government has decided to bail out the two cash strapped autonomous district councils in Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills region, which are facing a huge financial crisis leading to irregular and non-payment of salaries to their respective employees for the past few years.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong said the government is ready to bail out the GHADC and JHADC from their present financial crisis.

The two ADCs were unable to pay salaries to their employees. GHADC alone has failed to pay salaries to its employees for the past 3 years.

“We are working from the government side. I have already discussed with the CM and the CM will speak (on the issue and decision taken) during the current budget session,” Tynsong said.

If the two ADCs are receiving their royalty shares on minor and major minerals, the deputy CM said, “These are all the ongoing processes and it’s not necessary that at the end of every financial year you have to clear it all. Depending upon the collection and then after that deduction and then adjustment here and there and then rest will be released to the respective district councils.
