Meghalaya gets ₹779 crore as advance tax devolution ahead of festive season

Guwahati, Oct 1: The Union Government has released an additional ₹1,01,603 crore to states as an advance instalment of tax devolution, aimed at boosting capital expenditure and welfare spending ahead of the festive season.

Of this, Northeast India has received a total of ₹8,274 crore, with Meghalaya allocated ₹779 crore.

The Finance Ministry stated that this release is over and above the normal monthly devolution, which is scheduled for October 10. The move is expected to help states to accelerate infrastructure projects, meet welfare commitments, and address seasonal financial pressures during Durga Puja, Diwali, and other upcoming festivals.

Nationally, Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation at ₹18,227 crore, followed by Bihar at ₹10,219 crore and Madhya Pradesh at ₹7,976 crore. In the Northeast, Assam received ₹3,178 crore, while Arunachal Pradesh got ₹1,785 crore and Nagaland ₹578 crore.

The central government has underlined that such advance releases are part of its broader strategy to encourage states to step up capital expenditure, which plays a vital role in stimulating local economies and creating jobs.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for releasing ₹3,178cr as advance share of tax devolution this festive season. ” This will help us speed up our welfare efforts” Sarma said.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju who is an MP from Arunachal Pradesh has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying Arunachal Pradesh has received more than 10 times of what it used to receive during previous government.
He has thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for facilitating the timely release so that all welfare schemes can be taken up on time.
