Shillong, May 13: Power Minister AT Mondal on Tuesday said the government is coming up with a comprehensive adequacy plan for 2035 to ensure the power scenario in the state is improved.

Speaking to reporters, Mondal said, “As per power scenario in the state is concerned, we are growing in a steady way although our growth is little bit different compared to other states. we are coming up with a comprehensive-adhesive plan for 2035 that when we reach 2035, how our power scenario will be.”

He informed that the government is in constant touch with the Ministry of Power and said, “We are flagging the issues which can be helped by the ministry. All these matters are being taken care of and we are making our upgradation plan in terms of power scenario, manpower and everything including our system upgradation (before we) reach 2035. We are working on it and we are taking everybody into confidence.”

Talking about the power scenario and load shedding, the minister assured that the state is in a comfortable position and no-load shedding is anticipated. “See, the monsoon season has come and it will be naturally comfortable, but even before its onset, we had already mentioned that we have surplus power and will not go for any load shedding,” he said.

He also acknowledged the challenges that occur during the monsoon, such as disruptions caused by fallen trees and adverse weather conditions. However, he assured that teams are already on standby to respond swiftly to any disruptions.

“Yeah, it is already in place. We hope that nothing untoward will happen like last year. Cyclone Remal has devastated our transmission and distribution lines this year. Such possibilities remain, but we expect nothing major to happen. The team is in place to take immediate action,” he said.

When asked if a dedicated task force had been formed, he clarified, “This is within our own system. A task force is formed only when there’s a localized emergency. Otherwise, systems are already in place everywhere.”
