SHILLONG, FEB 12: The Centre has approved a six-month extension in service of the incumbent Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang.
The proposal forwarded by the Ministry of Home Affairs was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training on February 11.
The extension allows Nongrang to continue serving as the Meghalaya DGP for an additional six months after her original service term ends on May 19, 2026.

The matter was taken as a special case in public interest under Rule 16(1) of the AIS (DCRB) Rules, 1958.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs for extension in service of Ms Idashisha Nongrang, IPS (AM:1992), Director General of Police, Meghalaya, for a period of 6 months beyond 19.05.2026, in relaxation of Rule 16(1) of AIS (DCRB) Rules, 1958, as a special case in public interest,” said Director Sakshi Mittal in a letter to the secretary of MHA Govind Mohan on Wednesday.
