SHILLONG, DEC 19: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said the government will not tolerate the illegal activities of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) following the IED attack on the Dhar Company in Shymplong, East Jaintia Hills district.
The outfit has claimed responsibility of the IED attack stating it targeted Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar’s property over extortion refusal.
When sought for his comment on the incident and how many politicians in Meghalaya are being served with demand notes, Sangma said, “Details I don’t have with me, but earlier they were saying he was paying and now they are saying he is not paying – that is quite a bit of a contradictory thing.”
He assured that the government will not tolerate such actions and that the police have gathered sufficient evidence to act.
“The police have made a very strong case, they have enough information and full evidence… I am sure the SP will be sharing that with you tomorrow. Action has been taken, the police have been very swift, and those behind it will definitely be picked up,” Sangma stated.
The HNLC’s statement, issued by general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw, claimed the outfit of targeting the property of Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar after he allegedly refused to meet extortion demands.
Police had confirmed that two over‑ground workers of the HNLC were arrested on December 18 in connection with the blast and have confessed to planting the device.
