SHILLONG, DEC 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has welcomed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement, calling it a “healthy competition” that promotes the North East as a music destination.

“I always feel positive competitiveness is always important and it is promoting the North East as a destination and it is a great thing,” Sangma told reporters on Tuesday.

“Meghalaya and Shillong will always have its niche as there are certain factors that are different when it comes to Shillong and Meghalaya and certain aspects which are different when it comes to Assam and Guwahati.”

Sangma emphasized that each state and city has its unique strengths and competitive advantages, and playing to those strengths should be the strategy of every state government.

“We don’t see it as a competition, but I think overall, he is promoting the region as a whole as a decision for music,” Sangma said.

“We have always said the North East region is a music destination and we hope that all NE states move together in creating a very healthy area of competition and promote music and concert economy for the entire nation and for the world.”
