Meeting on elephant conservation held at Dfo office East & West Garo hills wildlife Divison

Tura, July 28: In an effort to continue the work for Elephant Conservation and mitigate Human-Elephant conflict along the Assam-Meghalaya border villages, a meeting was held between the Wildlife Officials from Goalpara-Assam and East and West Garo Hills Wildlife Division, Tura.

The meeting was attended by S.N. Sangma,IFS, CF, Garo Hills Region, Tejas Mariswamy,IFS, DFO,Goalpara, Rupanker K. Marak,MFS, DFO, Tura, Bibhuti, and Aaranyak, along with the Range Officers from Garo Hills Wildlife Division.

During the meeting, the officers agreed to strengthen collaborations on Human-elephant conflict, Habitat, easy movement of elephants between the two states.

The meeting also decided to open a joint WhatsApp group to share information about elephant movements for better coordination. For the first time, the two divisions also decided to celebrate the World Elephant Day on  August 12 jointly along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

Wildlife officials have also decided to play a friendly football match between Goalpara and Tura in last Week of August at Tura.
