Shillong, July 30: In response to the North-Eastern Hill University’s (NEHU) implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from August 2023 for the UG (Undergraduate) level without approval from the Academic Council, the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) has decided to boycott the First Semester Classes under FYUP (Four Year Undergraduate Programme) and launch a Non-Cooperation Movement against NEHU.
The MCTA also expressed its concern over the NEHU administration’s adamant approach, particularly displayed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, in pushing forward the implementation of NEP 2020 without the necessary approvals. The Association condemned this callous behaviour and decided to take action to protect the interests of all stakeholders, especially the students.
Effective from 1st August, 2023, all MCTA members have been asked to boycott first semester classes and reject any responsibilities related to the NEP 2020 implementation. However, the classes for 3rd and 5th Semesters will function without any disruptions.
Dr. A. W. Rani, the General Secretary of MCTA, acknowledged the challenges that may arise from this decision but emphasised the importance of standing united to ensure the due processes of academic institutions are respected.
The MCTA has assured its members that updates on developments regarding the matter will be communicated promptly.
