Manipur Violence: 7-Yr-old boy, his mother and relative burnt alive as mob sets ambulance on fire

Imphal, June 7: In a heart-wrenching incident, a seven-year-old, his mother and a relative were killed in Imphal West’s Iroisemba area on Sunday (June 4) evening, while the young boy, Tongsing Hangsing was being taken to hospital after being hit by a bullet at the Assam Rifles camp where his family was staying.

According to reports, a allegedly mob set the ambulance carrying the child, his mother and a relative on fire, and all of them were burnt to death.

Senior police officer said that all they could recover were some bones from inside the ambulance.

On the same night, an FIR including sections related to murder was filed.

Reports said that Tongsing and his family had moved into the Assam Rifles camp a day before they were burnt to death.

Police officer said that on Sunday there was firing between Kuki and Meitei villages. During the firing incident, a bullet splinter from this firing hit Tongsing on the head, and another hit his mother’s hand.

While oxygen was administered to the young boy at the camp, but he remained critical and needed to be shifted to hospital. Tongsing father is a Kuki while his mother is Meitei. The decision was made to take the child to a nearest hospital along with his mother Meena Hangsing, and another relative Meitei neighbour, Lydia Lourembam, said reports.

The ambulance and police convoy was escorted by the Assam Rifles personnel till the point before being stopped ‘Meira Paibis’ (powerful vigilante group of Meitei women). Following this, the ambulance continued o move under police protection. Soon, a rumour was spread that “Kuki militants” were being evacuated following which and the convoy was attacked. A mob burnt down the convoy with the child, his mother and neighbour still inside.
