Manipur: Security forces arrest 6 members of KCP(PWG) militant for extortion in Imphal East

Imphal, Oct 23: Security forces arrested six members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) on Tuesday in Manipur’s Imphal East district.

The arrested members have been identified as: Oinam Abung Meitei, Leimapokpam Hari Meitei, Yaikhom Lukhoi Singh, Oinam Bijen Meitei, Athokpam Inaobi Devi, and Moirangthem Ichan Devi.

“After getting a tip off, we have launched an operation, and seized Rs 3.89 lakh in cash, three vehicles including one car and two motorcycles, and multiple mobile phones. We have also recovered identification documents and other personal items from the suspects,” said a police official.

According to police, the group had been running an extensive extortion network targeting private businesses, government offices, and civilians in the region.

The operation lasted around two hours and ended with the arrest of six involved in the ruthless extortion drives of the outfit.

Police said they found extorting the general public, hospitals, private firm and government offices.
