Tura, Sept 7: The Special POCSO Court in South Garo Hills has convicted and sentenced Daljitsing A. Sangma to rigorous imprisonment of up to 25 years for the rape and aggravated sexual assault of a minor.
The case was initially registered in 2020 at Baghmara Women Police Station (Case No. 14(08)/2020) under relevant provisions of the IPC and POCSO Act. Investigation, led by WPS Thayana R. Marak, culminated in the filing of a chargesheet (CS No. 15/2020) on September 25, 2020.
After the conclusion of trial, Special Judge (POCSO) Febroneous Silkam Sangma held the accused guilty of offences under Sections 376(2)(f)(n) and 376(3) of the IPC, read with Sections 3(a), 5(1)(n), and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The court sentenced Sangma to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000 under the POCSO Act.
He was further sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 376(3) IPC.
In default of payment, he will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
