Shillong, August 20: An employee of the North Eastern Council (NEC) was arrested on Monday afternoon for allegedly sexually molesting a 21-year-old coworker.
According to source, the victim has been working in the office on contractual basis as she had been employed through compassionate grounds.
According to source, the accused asked the victim to accompany him to a bank in the city for work-related tasks, as she was assigned to assist him. After completing the bank visit, he insisted on stopping by his quarters, claiming he had forgotten his tiffin. Once they arrived, he invited her inside and allegedly forced himself on her, added the source.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 PM on Monday.
The victim later filed a complaint at the Laitumkhrah Police Station, leading to the immediate arrest of the accused from his quarters that afternoon.
The case is currently under investigation.
