Shillong, Feb 11: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mawkhar Circle on Tuesday sent away a group of migrant workers from Umsohsun, East Khasi Hills, alleging that they were working without proper documentation.

However, the police intervened, leading to a heated exchange between the union members and law enforcement.

The KSU questioned why authorities had not taken action against the workers, whom they accused of regularly causing disturbances in the area.

According to the union, residents have repeatedly complained about the workers, claiming that they often consume alcohol in the evenings and create a nuisance, making it difficult for pedestrians to pass through the locality.

“In the past few months, locals have informed us that these same workers stay in the area until late at night. When intoxicated, they even disrupt movement in Umsohsun,” the union alleged.
