Shillong, Jan 29: The Meghalaya football team (Boys) has secured their spot in the Khelo India Youth Games 2024 final by defeating Jharkhand 5-3 in a thrilling semifinal match held in Tamil Nadu, on Monday.
In the semifinal, the Jharkhand boys dominated the opening 20 minutes of the first half, scoring two goals just before the 30-minute mark.
However, in the 35th minute of the first half, the Meghalaya team managed to score one goal from an indirect free kick inside the penalty box.
The first half concluded with Jharkhand leading 2-1.
In the second half, with another 45 minutes of regular time, the Meghalaya team dominated, scoring four goals in 30 minutes, all credited to Mebanlamlynti Marsharing.
Meban’s outstanding performance and netting four goals in the semifinal earned him praise from the commentator, who compared his playing style to that of Indian legend Sunil Chhetri.
After making a comeback, the Meghalaya team celebrated their impressive 5-3 victory when the final whistle blew.
Meghalaya is now set to face the winner of the second semifinal between Punjab and Odisha later today. The final match is scheduled for January 31.
