Shillong, Jan 9: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will be holding the Dorbar Iktiar Paidbah at Polo Ground on 18 January 2025.
Earlier the Dorbar Iktiar Paidbah was scheduled to be held on 14 December 2024 but it was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
Informing this, chief executive member (CEM) of KHADC Pyniaid Sing Syiem said that the objective of the Dorbar Iktiar Paidbah is to honour Dorbar Shnongs, Dorbar Dongs, Dorbar Kurs, Seng Kynthei/Longkmie and Seng Samla.
Syiem said that the decision to hold the Dorbar Iktiar Paidbah was taken following meeting with members of the Federation of Khasi States (FKS), Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur, Synjuk Ki Dorbar Kur, Lympung Ki Seng Longkmie/Kynthei, Synjuk Seng Samla Shnong among others.
“From the District Council invited 30 representatives each from villages and localities, including members of the Executive Committees of Dorbar Shnongs, Seng Kynthei/Longkmie and Seng Samla to come and take part in Dorbar Iktiar Paidbah to be held on 18 January” said Syiem.
Syiem informed that the Governor CH Vijayashankar and Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court along with senior advocates from the state will be present in the Dorbar.
“After 72 years of getting its our Autonomous District Council, we now have got our own law i.e. the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Administration of Elaka Amendment Act 2023 and in this act, we have brought an amendment of the principal act of the Elaka Administration 1971 and by incorporating Seng Samla, Seng Kynthei and Seng Longkmie in the act” he added.
Syiem said that as per section 8 of the sub-section 11, it is directed the Dorbar Shnong and Dorbar Dong to register all residents and maintain records of every households and all residents, including house owners, land owners, tenants, leases, business establishments, shops, vendors, factories, students, employees, labourers etc within the Shnongs or villages.
The CEM said that in the Dorbar, there will be discussion on the amendment of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Khasi Social Customs of Lineage Act 1971.
“As the amendment there will be a Registrar in the office to receive applications from the Kur to be recognized by law hence we urge all Seng Kur to come and meet the Registrar and get their respective Kur register and recognition as per law” he added.
