Shillong, Aug 17: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has submitted its proposal to the State government for sanctioning of funds for documentation of the indigenous customs and traditions.
“We have already sent our proposals to the State government for final sanction and clearance,” KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem told reporters on Thursday.
He informed that the executive committee has decided to invite young students, who are willing to do research on the traditional customs and traditions of the indigenous Khasi people. “In this subject, we will have 17 areas of research,” Syiem said.
“We have met the Chief Minister twice on this issue. It was a fruitful meeting and, in fact, chief minister and government will help fund the KHADC to do this research work in terms of customs, traditions and culture,” he said.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had recently announced the State government’s decision to ask all the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) to document indigenous knowledge, customs and traditions. He had said that the State government is ready to fund the ADCs.
