SHILLONG, OCT 30: Chief of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Thombor Shiwat on Thursday said the council is willing to accept the government’s proposal to pay salaries to its employees but with certain conditions.
“We will accept it (government’s proposal) but with conditions,” Shiwat told reporters after meeting the deputy chief minister in-charge district council affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong, who have enquired about the council’s decision on the proposal.
He however informed that the council is yet to submit its response to the state government.
The conditions, Shitwat explained, relate to the council’s desire to manage its own resources, including mines and minor minerals, and transport, which are currently collected by the state government.
The council wants to reduce its dependence on the state government and seeks help in managing its finances.
Regarding the financial implications of the past 5-6 months, Shitwat said that the council is waiting for the state government to calculate the shares due to the council. Once the calculation is done, the council will decide on the next course of action.
