Shillong, June 11: Sonam Raghuvanshi and four other accused were sent to 8 days of police custody by the Sessions Court in Shillong on Wednesday evening in connection with the brutal murder of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi in Sohra last month.
All five accused were produced before the Court of the District and Sessions Judge in Shillong on Wednesday evening, and after about an hour of hearing, were remanded to 8 days of police custody. This was confirmed by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem.
“All five accused have been remanded to 8 days Police Custody,” he told reporters.
The court’s decision followed a day-long wait due to extensive paperwork and other necessary formalities, police said.
The five individuals, identified as Sonam Raghuvanshi, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and the three alleged contract killers Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi, had been brought to Shillong in the early hours of Wednesday. Police sources had earlier revealed that all five have confessed to their involvement in the brutal killing of Raja Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s husband.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, had initially stated that a 10-day police custody was being sought for the accused. With the 8-day remand now granted, intensive interrogation is set to begin.
Syiem also explained that the reconstruction of the crime scene at the parking lot of Wai Sawdong Falls, where Raja was allegedly murdered, will be conducted after the accused’s examinations are finalized and their statements recorded.
