SHILLONG, MAR 7: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Saturday congratulated Meghalaya police’s Anti‑Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) for seizing illegal drugs worth more than Rs 51 crore, but urged investigators to go after syndicate leaders rather than only carriers.

In a statement, HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said the seizure “sends a strong message that the law enforcement agencies are determined to crack down on the drug trade.”

He noted, however, that “the real battle…can only be won when the big fish — the masterminds, financiers, and major players behind these drug syndicates — are identified, exposed, and brought to justice.”

Synrem argued the region’s network is highly organized and uses vulnerable people as couriers while powerful elements stay hidden.

He called for a thorough and uncompromising investigation.

“Seizing drugs is a major victory, but the real success will come when the kingpins who run the trade from behind the shadows are finally brought before the law.”
