Shillong, March 13: The banned militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) allegedly lured Sleeper Cell members with monetary rewards and vehicles to execute IED blasts in different parts of the State.
Police detailed on their modus operandi involving Bangladesh-based fugitives directing the sleeper cells.
It further said that the inducement of monetary rewards, including new vehicles, was offered to sleeper cell members to carry out IED blasts.
The police further informed that the same sleeper cell had hoisted HNLC flags in recent years at the behest of Bangladesh-based fugitives of the proscribed HNLC.
All of this came to light after one of the arrested suspects led the police to a house where Ri Bhoi police conducted a search.
Following the search , the police recovered small arms, several gelatin sticks, detonators, ignition fuses, alongside HNLC flags and other incriminating materials from the arrested individual.
The police are launching further investigations to apprehend all those involved.
